Residential Air Quality

Indoor Air Quality Products Exist! Your home should be your safe (and clean) haven.

Your home should have indoor air quality products so it can be a comforting place where your body can rest and unwind from the active life out and about. The last thing you need to hear is that your home is affecting you or your family’s health due to allergins and poor air quality! Unfortunately, many homes built today are built so air tight—which is great for energy efficiency—it can be detrimental to air quality.

Did you know that a typical home contains over 60 toxic chemicals? It’s because such things as household cleaning products, carpets, furniture, paints, smoking, cooking and residential heating systems may be accumulating in the air to dangerous levels inside the house. Since things are made so air tight, these toxins have nowhere to go. They keep adding up.

In addition, poor indoor air quality can result from:

  • Pollen
  • Mould Spores
  • Pet Dander
  • Dust Mites
  • Dust
  • Bacteria
  • Viruses
  • Odors

These types of pollutants can cause things like nasal congestion, itchy eyes, sore throats, nausea, headaches and fatigue. In more extreme situations, they can lead to serious health issues such as allergies, asthma, emphysema and bronchitis.

Long-term exposure to low levels of household chemicals and toxins can result in damage to the cardiovascular, reproductive and nervous systems, suppression of the immune system and cancer. It’s not good, people.

FACT: According to the EPA, women who work in the home have a 54% higher death rate from cancer than women who work outside of the home.

Besides the bedroom, many people use indoor air quality products such as air purifiers or air filters in other rooms in the house:

  • Baby’s Room – protection of delicate baby lungs
  • Home Workshop – removal of dust and fumes from paint and toxic solvents
  • Home Office – removal of chemical off-gassing and ozone production from computers, printers, fax machines and photocopiers
  • Hobby Area – removal or protection from toxic substances found in art supplies, solvents, glues and adhesives
  • Bedroom Over an Attached Garage – control of carbon monoxide that can seep into the house
  • Family Room – removal of dust created by high traffic
  • Kitchen – removal of gases generated by cooking at high temperatures

Basements & crawl spaces are the most problematic areas, from excessive moisture to poor ventilation. Natural air flow pulls the pollutants upwards into the living areas affecting the whole house.

Whether it’s using air purification systems, air filtration, cleaning your ducts and other solutions, you can reduce and eliminate these toxins.
